(detailed question) I burn 500 calories 4 days a week, how many weeks does it take for me to lose 15-20 pounds?

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2010 and filed under brown fat metabolism | 3 Comments »

Hi there ! i recently invested in a recumbent stationary bike. It does wonders! personally i love it better than a treadmill, it hurts my joints less and i can keep on going on it for longer than half an hour!
This has been my 3rd day now and each day i have been burning 500 calories in an hour of being on the bike. I want to lose 15-20 pounds, how long do you think it will take me if i keep this up 4 days a week? I also eat eggs, toast, bacon and some times hash browns for breakfast, lunch time i usually eat sushi or soup and dinner , chicken breast , veges, salads , fish , mashed potatoes or mini round potatoes. Is there anything you would suggest? I eat 3 times a day , it’s just how my body always is i have a really good metabolism , its just one year i went on a big splurg and now i have been the same weight for a year ever since! how many pounds do you think i will lose if i keep this up for a month or 2 weeks? Not sure how calories work and all. 3 days i work 12 hour shifts ( and im basically standing for 8 hours of it , not sure how many calories that will burned either! ) thanks so much for reading :)

I am 23 yrs of age
I am only 5ft 1 weigh 145 pounds ( i def don’t look it though, from what people have told me they are shocked to believe i am that weight, i look 130 pounds , which is really weird! i guess the fat is everywhere or in one certain spot)

Well you weigh 145 so you burn like 1400 calories a day for just being alive
1400(for being alive)+500 (the cals you burn)= 1900
1900 x 4 = 7600
1400 (on the days you don’t work out) x 3= 4200
7600+4200= 11800 calories a week
which is a little more than 2 pounds a week
so it will take you about 2 months unless you start working out everyday
sorry if thats confusing!
good luck!!!

Atkins Diet Recipe: Low Carb Eggplant Parmesan

Posted by admin on February 23rd, 2010 and filed under brown fat diet | 25 Comments »

In another recipe coming out of Jennifer Eloff’s awesome low carb cookbook, Splendid Low Carbing, I prepare a food that I probably would have swore I would never eat — eggplant. In just another one of those amazing things that low carb lifestyle brought to me, my taste buds have changed. I now like eggplant well enough to voluntarily eat it.

Here’s a link to Jennifer’s website:
http://www.low-carb.us/splendalowcarb.shtml

Ingredients:
1 Medium Eggplant, thinly sliced
1 cup of grated parmesan
2 eggs
1 pound ground beef, browned
8 oz Sausage, browned
2 cloves garlic
1.5 cups of No Sugar Added Spaghetti Sauce
1 cup Mozzarella Cheese, shredded

1. Thinly slice eggplant, and put in egg wash.
2. Coat eggplant in Parmesan cheese
3. Heat oil in frying pan, and once hot, fry eggplant 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
4. Brown ground beef and sausage. Once drained, add garlic and spaghetti sauce and heat for 5 minutes while finishing frying eggplant slices.
5. Layer the eggplant, meat mixture, and cheese to form 3 layers. Optional – dust top with excess Parmesan cheese.

Anatomy of Hype: Tom Brown Tracker knife Part 2

Posted by admin on February 20th, 2010 and filed under brown fat weight loss | 25 Comments »

PART 2 of 2
Imbued with seemingly magical capabilities from the 2003 movie “The Hunted,” the Tom Brown Tracker T1 has gain stunning popularity. Starring Tommy Lee Jones as good guy LT and Benicio Del Toro as the out-of-control killer Aaron, the movie showed several laughable sequences involving the Tracker knife. No doubt, the TBT was chosen for its unusual visual appeal and to half-heartedly separate The Hunted from its plot source, the much better Rambo: First Blood movie. That show had already used a more impressive (and effective) Gil Hibben bowie knife in similar fashion. But from The Hunted movie we are led to believe that Tom Brown Tracker is the preferred blade, over all others, by an elite and secret group of combat soldiers. We see it thrown with amazing speed basically blowing a hole through the receiving tree. We see it hacking a part government assassins with ease. We see it being carried in a ridiculous horizontal fashion by Aaron. We see being forged out of raw steel into the perfect killing blade. And thats what Tom Brown, a technical advisor to the movie, would have us believe: that the Tracker knife is the swiftest, most deadly blade out there. If this wasnt the case, why then would these elite and superbly skilled operatives choose it and actually manufacture it! Never mind they could have BOUGHT much better blades or simply armed themselves with a much more capable handgun to dispatch each other. Nope, the movie avoids such logic and marches on with absurdity born of foolish technical advisement and remains detached from reality in most of its sequences. In this two part series, Nutnfancy debunks the mystique and nonsense surrounding the overpriced, over-hyped, and overly heavy Tom Brown Tracker T1 knife. From its diminutive 6 ¼ thick blade, to its astounding 28 ounce weight, to its goofy, limited application grind, the Tom Brown Tracker will stack up poorly against other blades possessing better survival capability and combat efficiency. Its reputation is a house of cards. Admittedly the Tracker is a visually engaging knife with a good handle and probably good chopping capability but it cant escape its limitations (and apparently being overpriced as well). As a purely collectible knife, the Tracker is worthwhile. But as a fully capable wilderness or combat blade, the Tom Brown Tracker is very much sub par compared to many other far more capable designs. Surely some knife users that have bit off on the hype of the TBT (and bought it) will take offense to this truthful review but Nutnfancy will always cut through the crap for you the potential buyers wanting maximize money and capabilities.
Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 2 out of 10

CLARIFICATION: At about 11:25 I talk about the TBTs poor chopping/hacking capabilities. I think it will CHOP well WITHIN its straight run of 3.5 of straight edge. Outside of that I think it will diminish in capability. My criticisms of this capability surround heavy duty chopping or hacking of something like a large standing, dead tree. I feel a larger survival blade with a bigger moment arm and swing would be superior.

Fat Jon & Sonic Brown are Beautiful Killing Machine, both which are members of Five Deez and they formed this group. All tracks on the album are produced by Sonic Brown and co-produced by Fat Jon. If Fat Jon’s on it, you should know you’ll expect some great music, and no doubt they didn’t fail to impress me. This album reminds me of Fat Jon’s old albums like Afterthought.

I want to get in shape. Will the plans I have work? Also, do you have any other advice?

Posted by admin on February 20th, 2010 and filed under brown fat metabolism | 3 Comments »

I am 5′2" and 125 pounds. I would like to lose 20 pounds overall if possible and just tighten up. I want a lot more energy and to feel healthier too, but I know that will come with the better eating and exercise.

I found a diet in a health magazine claiming to shed over 10 pounds in 3 weeks. Each week changes very little so I just posted the first. Please let me know if you think it will work and what I could do after to keep it off. The magazine actually said not to exercise much as my body will be using a lot more energy already as my metabolism will be quickly speeding up, and its just a big change. So I plan to just put in a lot more exercise and things like protein and fiber after the diet, still maintaining the 6 small meal structure.

DIET PLAN

Week One (+2 Snacks)

Meal One: 10
3/4 cup cooked oatmeal (steel cut preferred)
5 unsalted walnuts
1 orange or banana

Meal Two: 12
1 apple

Meal Three: 2
1/2 cup whole-wheat or brown rice
4 oz skinless chicken breast grilled
1 cup steamed or grilled spinach

Meal Four: 4
2 cups celery
1 tbsp natural almond butter

Meal Five: 6
6 oz fish grilled
1 cup steamed or grilled zucchini
1 cup steamed or grilled asparagus
3 cups salad (greens, tomatoes) seasoned with lemon juice

Meal Six:
1 cup mixed berries

Total- Calories: 1,180; Fats: 33g; Saturated Fat: 6g; Trans Fat: 0g; Cholesterol: 180mg; Sodium: 550mg; Total Carbohydrates: 137 g; Dietary Fiber: 37g; Sugars: 54g; Protein: 91g; Iron: 11mg

OK, first of all. Losing more than 1-2 lbs a week is never considered healthy. Although 10 lbs a month is still good.

I guess 10 lbs in 3 weeks is still good if you are going to start working out afterward. I would not recommend going further than that.

The diet plan looks good, It seems to have what you need. But it may not be enough or too much depending on your body.

Go here:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598

This will tell you how much you need to ‘maintain’ your weight. Take 500-1000 out of it and you will be set (500-1000 cals a day = 3500-7000 cals a week = 1-2 lbs a week).

Never take out more than 1000 cals, or you will be sorry (lose muscle, fast weight lost = saggy skin). Just fix your diet a bit to make sure it falls within your cal intake.

It really does look like a great diet :)

Cheers ^^

Anatomy of Hype: Tom Brown Tracker knife Part 1

THIS VIDEO IS IN RESPONSE TO THE MANY MESSAGES I RECEIVE FROM MY FAITHFUL SUBSCRIBERS ASKING ME ABOUT THIS KNIFE. I WILL NEVER PAY MONEY FOR THE TBT SO ANSWERING THESE MANY QUESTIONS IS ONLY POSSIBLE THROUGH A SCREEN REVIEW.

Imbued with seemingly magical capabilities from the 2003 movie “The Hunted,” the Tom Brown Tracker T1 has gain stunning popularity and has sucked in a lot of users. I have used blades long enough in the wilderness to know the 6 blade will have limitations. As a purely collectible knife, the Tracker is worthwhile. But as a fully capable wilderness or combat blade, the Tom Brown Tracker is very much sub par compared to many other far more capable and affordable designs. Surely some knife users that have bit off on the hype of the TBT (and bought it) will take offense to this truthful review and will post their undying loyalty to this ridiculous blade and try to flame me in the process (just watch the comments!).
