How many calories per day should i eat and is this a good routine?
dont tell me to do the formula thing just give me an opinion

im 16, 5ft6 and weigh about 148-150 lbs i have been eating healthier since January 11th and since then i have lost about 10-12 lbs and i see the difference ( its mainly just stomach fat im trying to get rid off, my waist is like 30 inchs now)

for breakfast i eat 1 whole egg with 3 Tbls of egg whites w/ sliced up pieces of spinach, tomato, onion, and green pepper. I drink 1 cup of green tea and a multi vitamin

i go to school and get out at 2:40
so i dont eat till about 3:00 or 3:30

for lunch and dinner i eat like stuff like tuna, usually turkey, 110 calorie bagel, fruit, brown rice, lentiles and vegetable some reasonable portion / combination like that and stuff with another cup of green tea…..all i drink is green tea or water.

lunch at around 3:00 or 3:30
dinner around 6:00 or 7:00 then i go running later at night maybe 9:00 or somethin for like 15-30 min depends. when ever i feel like it i do pull ups, also im gonna start lifting weights soon once i lose enough body fat, i do jui jitsu but havent gone in a while but plan to get serious about it 2 times a week

i have snacks like fruit or whatever if i feel like it but not over doing it only if im hungry

and every now and then i cheat but only so i dont go crazy, usually the weekends but never over do it. ( ps. i believe my metabolism is pretty decent, cuz in the past i have been able to eat alot and not gain much usually stay at 160) anyway……

SO WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON MY ROUTINE?
oh yeah and im a dude lol

Everything you eat seems good, though I think you left off what you eat during dinner. I do not know that I could make it through the day on what you eat (I’d have to eat more), but if you don’t have energy problems it isn’t a problem. Do you think eating more regularly would help you cheat less? If you cheat because you’re hungry, eat more. If you cheat because your friends are going out to eat or w/e, don’t eat more. You will probably want to eat a bit more when you start lifting weights though.

Is eating around 1200 calories a day safe?

Posted by admin on January 22nd, 2010 and filed under brown fat metabolism | 4 Comments »

Last Monday (Jan 4th), I started a diet. I want to lose around 2 pounds a week. I figured up that I need to be eating around 1200 calories, most days I eat a little less, around 1100. I am 5′3", and currently weight 149 (I was 155 when I started). Every day I have felt full and satisfied, but I have people telling me I need to eat more because my metabolism will slow down. I don’t want to eat more, I feel like I eat plenty. My normal menu is usually something like this, for breakfast I will have either a 2 egg omelette, or like a grapefruit and toast with sugar free jam. Lunch is either progresso light soup or a sandwich, or a 6" and light Lays from Subway. Around 3 or 3:30 I have the munchies, so I will have a piece of fruit or a low fat fudgesicle or something like that, something under 100 calories. Dinner is baked chicken, brown rice and steamed broccoli, or something else around 500 calories, usually including chicken and veggies. I feel this is a healthy way to eat, but I don’t want to mess myself up. Any help?

Sounds like you’re doing just fine. You seem to consume all major food groups several times per day – which is the key to healthy eating. The main thing is to listen to your body. If you feel full and believe that you’re eating enough, then you probably are. Eating habits vary for every individual, so someone who doesn’t really know your lifestyle or eating habits cannot accurately determine if you’re eating enough or not.

The only other thing that I would recommend is taking some sort of multivitamin with your morning meal.

Good luck.

20 pounds in 3 months, teen.?

Posted by admin on January 13th, 2010 and filed under brown fat metabolism | 11 Comments »

Hey everybody,
I’m fourteen, and weigh 120, and I’m 5′2.
My BMI is 21.9, my BMR is 1402.6. Healthy? Yes, but I want to lower my body fat percentage substantially, and increase lean muscle mass.
I’d like to lose 20 pounds of fat, then I’ll work on muscles and gain 5 or so.

Here’s my diet so far…

Breakfast – Two egg whites, 1/2 cup spinach and 1/4 cup fat-free cottage cheese all cooked together in an omelet. Along with a multivitamin, and fish oils. And 8 oz. iced water.

Lunch – One cup romaine lettuce, 1/4 cup carrots and low calorie (1 calorie per spray) Cesar vinaigrette mixed as a salad. Along with 12 oz. 100% orange juice. And sometimes a low-fat fruit yogurt.

After-school snack – an apple/ or a handful of grapes. Along with 20 almonds. 8 oz. of iced water, or green tea.

Dinner – 1/4 cup cooked brown rice, 1/4 cup lean chicken breast and 1/4 cup of broccoli mixed together and seasoned with light olive-oil and a dash of salt and pepper. Also 10 oz. of iced water. Along with fiber supplements (because I’m lacking in the whole grain department, because of a slight gluten-intolorence), and acai berry with green tea leaf extract supplements (for skin, and metabolism).

I’ll also drink 12 oz. of pure cranberry juice once a week to cleanse of toxins.

All meals are within 2-3 hours apart.
First meal at 9:00 am, last at 5:00 pm.

As for exercise….

Morning – 10 minutes of jump rope.

Mid-day – Lots of stairs (LOTS), and a 45 minute Physical Education class.

After-school – 45 minutes of running on the treadmill, and 100 sit-ups.
(6 days a week)

Does that sound good? I’d love to lose about 2 pounds of fat every week. When my diet is over I’ll continue to eat in the same amounts and exercise 4 times a week and gradually less, but never less than 2 times a week. It won’t take me 3 months, but I don’t want to stress myself, because of my loaded honors’ school schedule.
I normally don’t get hungry so I’m going to have to force most meals, and I’ll be eating different everyday this was just an example. And what I meant is yes I’ll get muscle while losing weight from running, but after I drop 10 pounds I’m going to focus more on toning muscles rather than fat loss. And I’ll probably have to incorperate a protien shake into my diet.

That sounds like the diet I had when I was in figure skating. Work out a lot yes, drink more water, and what I found gave me a lot of energy were meal replacement drinks, they also help you loose weight. I found that out through the pharmacist, I asked because they kept saying weight loss on them.
Keep up with the great work, and good luck! I’m sure you’ll meet your goal.

or should i do this

There’s a 7 day diet that boosts your metabolism. It only lasts those 7 days but it works. In the first few days, you’ll burn between 7 and 15 lbs. It’s called the prefast diet. It takes away your cravings for anything unhealthy too. Go over to www.worldprayercenter.org. Click to enter. Then find the prefast diet on the righthandside of the screen. Click there. The diet works but it’s really tough to last the 7 days.

Source(s):

Pre-Fast Diet

Below is a pre-fasting diet which will helps cleanse the body from toxins, but stimulates metabolism of your body. You will probably lose seven to twelve pounds in one week, depending on your present body weight.

6 large green onions, (scallions – but we used regular onions), 2 green peppers, 1 or 2 large cans of tomatoes, 1 bunch of celery, 1 large head of cabbage, 1 pkg of Lipton Onion Soup Mix.

Season with salt, pepper, curry, parsley, etc., if desired, or 6 bouillon cubes. (Note: Half of this recipe was made and used according to following instructions by two people for four days. We kept it continually hot in a crock pot.) Cut vegetables in small to medium pieces and cover with water. Boil fast for ten minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue cooking until vegetables are tender. This can be eaten anytime you are hungry. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want at any time of the day. This soup will not add calories; the more you eat, the more you lose. If eaten alone for indefinite periods, you would suffer malnutrition. Fill a thermos in the morning if you will be away during day.

Day One. All fruits except bananas. Your first day should consist of all the fruit you want, except bananas. Cantaloupes and watermelons are lower in calories than most fruits. Eat only your soup and fruits the first day. For drinks – unsweetened tea, cranberry juice, or water.

Day Two. All vegetables. Eat until you are stuffed with all the fresh, raw, or cooked vegetables of your choice. Try to eat green, leafy vegetables and stay away from dry beans, peas, and corn. Eat all the vegetables you want along with your soup. At dinner time on this day, reward yourself with a big baked potato and butter. Eat all the soup you want this day, but don’t eat fruits.

Day Three. Mix day one and day two. Eat all the soup, fruit, and vegetables you want. You CAN’T have a baked potato this day.

IF YOU HAVE EATEN AS ABOVE FOR THREE DAYS AND HAVE NOT CHEATED, YOU WILL FIND THAT YOU WILL HAVE LOST FIVE TO SEVEN POUNDS.

Day Four. Bananas and skimmed milk. Eat as many as eight bananas and drink as many glasses of skimmed milk as you can on this day along with your soup. Bananas are high in calories and so is the milk, but on this particular day of our diet your body will need the potassium and the carbohydrates, proteins and calcium to lessen your craving for sweets.

Day Five. Beef and tomatoes (or salad). You may have 10-20 ounces this day. Try to drink as many as 6-8 glasses of water this day to wash away the uric acid in your body. Eat your soup at least once this day.

Day Six. Beef and veggies. Eat to your heart’s content of beef and vegetables this day. You can even have two or three steaks if you like with green, leafy vegetables but no baked potatoes. Be sure to eat soup at least once this day.

Day Seven. Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables. Again, stuff, stuff, stuff yourself. Be sure to eat soup at least once today.

BY THE END OF THE SEVENTH DAY, IF YOU HAVE NOT CHEATED ON THE DIET, YOU WILL FIND THAT YOU HAVE LOST 10-17 POUNDS. IF YOU HAVE LOST MORE THAN 15 POUNDS, STAY OFF THE DIET FOR TWO DAYS BEFORE RESUMING.

This seven day eating plan can be used as often as you like. As a matter of fact, if correctly followed, it will clean your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well-being as never before. After only days of this process, you will begin to feel lighter, at least 10 and possibly 17 pounds, and have an abundance of energy. Continue this plan as long as you wish and feel the difference. This diet is a fast, fat-burning diet. the secret is that you will burn more calories than you take in. It will flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well-being. This diet does not lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time because of the removal of fat buildups in your system. Go off the diet at least 24 hours before any intake of alcohol. Because everyone’s digestive system is different, this diet will affect everyone differently.

You will not starve. You will not instantly become thin. Fasting is consuming only liquids. When the body does not have to deal with digesting solid food and getting rid of the waste that solid food creates, it can concentrate on getting rid of toxins. The most common reason to fast is to eliminate disease or from the body.

How much weight will I lose?

The main benefit offered by a fast, to those who wish to lose weight, is the speed of the weight loss. To see a person drop 30-to-40 pounds in a 30-day juice fast is to see a person totally transform his life. Self-esteem is given a boost and for the first time in their life, discipline becomes a lifestyle. The fast becomes a catalyst for a total life overhaul. People start dressing better, showing more confidence, becoming more organized, more dedicated in relationships and more at peace.

Initially, weight loss can be as high as three-to-four pounds per day, but as the fast continues, the average loss will be one pound-per-day. If you are juice fasting and not losing weight, the juice is supplying all the calories you need. You may have to cut down on the juices or alternate between water fasting and juice fasting if losing weight is part of your goal. The slower your metabolism is the slower the weight loss.

Try to stay focused on the healthy things you are doing to improve your life rather than being consumed with the number of pounds lost each day. Water retention can vary your weight five pounds so watching the scale can be frustrating. The best motivation to fast is for physical and spiritual health. Be patient; the fasting process is slow. Be thankful the toxins are leaving your body. Do not have unrealistic expectations. Give your body the time it needs to do the work of cleansing.

Fasting And Metabolism

The fear is that while fasting, the metabolism will slow down and afterward there will be more weight gained than before the fast. Initially, any calorie reduction will cause a lowering in the BMR or base metabolic rate. Cleansing will bring health that will increase metabolic performance and energy output. In other words, you will eat less and feel more energetic.

After fasting, the body is more efficient. Digestion is better due to a cleaner colon. The colon walls have been cleansed of impacted feces, allowing improved absorption of nutrients. The good news is that greater efficiency equals enhanced energy. Healthy people burn more calories. They also eat less because they are more active and feel better about themselves. They don’t need food as a security blanket.

The greatest impact you can have on increasing your resting metabolism is exercise. After a workout, you can be sitting on the couch reading while burning calories, as the muscles are grabbing glucose from the blood to replace glycogen supplies. The key to weight loss is fewer calories and more exercise. A diet high in raw food provides fewer, low-density calories, and higher-fiber, more-filling foods.

Oh, by the way, a slower metabolism diminishes aging. A tortoise can live to 400 hundred years of age.

burrito for breakfast, cheeseburgers for lunch, and rice bowl for dinner?

Posted by admin on November 30th, 2009 and filed under brown fat metabolism | 2 Comments »

everyday i at school i eat a chicken and rice burrito for breakfast, a pizza stuffed sandwich, a bagel with cream cheese and jelly,or bites and hash browns along with a fruit and a small carton of school sized apple juice.

then for lunch i usually eat a rice bowl with some sort of chicken (orange, terryakki (sp?), kung pao) , or 2 mini cheese burgers, or "chicken box" (contains about 5 chicken nuggets and a some cajun potatoe wedges) with ketchup, or a soft taco, or a beef and cheese burrito..all with an orange and apple juice.

when i get home..for dinner

i always eat some sort of asian food. rice, noodle, whatever..
hence im asian..(:

and during the day i usually have little snacks in between such as granola bar, or chips.

my question is..

why the heck am i so skinny even though i eat like a pig everyday ._______.

i know i know i know..
fast metabolism and..asian genes..but seriously a metabolism that fast?

i do play sports..tennis..everyday for at least 2 hrs.

WHY SO SKINNY ?!

im 5′4 and only 100 lbs >____<

how can i gain weight. i dont want to just weight more..i wanna look like a weigh more.

some people say i dont look 100 lbs..they say i look 89 ._. but thats cus i have more muscles than fat so i weigh more than i look.

Well, you are eating to fast so when u eat 2 fast it just stays in your stomach until u poop it out so…. what you should do is eat slower exerice and plus+ asians are little and most of the time healthy and skinny. Some of them can be Strong and others can be weak its just we are diffrient people get use 2 it…. THATS THE REASON WHY UR SO SKINNY… thank you for the time.

Want to tone up (butt, thighs, stomach) how does my eating/exercise program look? (professional answers pls)?

Posted by admin on November 25th, 2009 and filed under brown fat metabolism | 3 Comments »

I want to burn a bit of fat and tone up in about 4 weeks, not drastically but fast and effectively.
I also really want to speed up my metabolism! Without caffeine or anything like that.

An example of my day is like this:
Br: 1/2 cup oatmeal with sunflower seeds and raisins + a glass low fat soy milk <OR> a boiled egg on wholegrain toast
Morning Tea: a large glass low fat soy milk <or> piece of fruit <or> low fat fruit yoghurt
Lunch: Salmon and avocado salad with light mayonnaise <or> baked beans on wholegrain toast.
+ yoghurt or 100 calorie snack bar
Afternoon Tea: low fat yoghurt or smoothie (fuit, milk, yoghurt, honey)
Dinner: 1/2 plate veges (roast, cooked or salad) + piece of fish or skinless chicken, palm-sized and sometimes brown rice/ a little pasta with tomato base

Exercise: 30 minute brisk walk every day + 10 mins stretching and toning exercises (leg lifts, squats, "hydrant" + 100 crunches a day

How does it all sound? (twice a week I treat myself to either two scoops ice cream/a few squares chocolate/ or a small muffin or slice thats about 200 cals)

your diet looks good. your workout routine is off. Cardio and crunches everyday is ok, but i suggest you do ur leg lifts, squats 3x a week so ur body can have time to recover.
if you want to tone up those area u mention: do lunges, lift some light weights, do side crunches, reverse situps, bicycle, planks.

How good will i look to MEPS?

Posted by admin on November 23rd, 2009 and filed under brown fat metabolism | 8 Comments »

I want to qualify for 11b and I’m only a few months shy of 16, but as of now, what do you think would happen to me at MEPS?
1) I have "very mild asthma" as my doctor has called it. I can’t even remember the last time i had an attack or where my inhaler is. It doesn’t bar me from exercising or anything else for that matter.
2) When i 13, i cut myself on my inner thigh for only about a week. I have 8 "scars" added from both legs and only one is really a bumpy, white anomaly. The others are just brown slits. (I’m using Mederma to hopefully fade them to the point of obscurity). Other then that, i have NO written medical history of depression, medication or anything else and i haven’t even felt down since. It was just a phase.
I’m not "athletic" fit, but i have a very fast metabolism, so, lucky me, i never really gain weight. I’ve been exercising lately (push-ups, sit-ups, running, breathing exercises and walking with weighted bookbag). I don’t do drugs, i don’t drink, I’m not gay, I have practically no body fat. Any help?
I know i can’t enlist yet, I’m just trying to get an early opinion.

-It doesn’t matter if you have "very mild asthma". It is going to be classified as Asthma on your medical chart, and that shit won’t look good.
-Scars are largely pointless, they don’t really care.
-It’s good that you got no real problems, mentally or physically, but you’re gonna want to gain some muscle mass.

How much could i lose realisticly in 2 months?

Posted by admin on November 21st, 2009 and filed under brown fat metabolism | 4 Comments »

Ok after much stressing on what diet i should do i have decided… well its not a diet its a life style change so i dont put the weight back on. im actually excited about doing it too. Im going to lose 1 stone.

My stats are:
Age: 16.
Height: 5 ft 7.
Weight: 140 pounds. (10 stone).

I looked at my bmi and im not fat or overweight im a healthy weight but i want to lose 1 stone. Apparently for my height & age i should be 9 stone – 11 stone.

Im going to eat every 3 hours to keep my metabolism up.
So e.g
9:00am – Branflakes with semi skinned milk.
12:00pm – Tuna sandwich on brown bread.
3:00pm – Plate of Vegetables.
6:00pm – Soup.

So my food will come up to 1,300 calories.
And i’ll excercise like 45-60 mins 5-6 times a week.

No eating after 6 also. Myabe a snack. A piece of fruit.
And plenty of water.

So… how much do you think i can lose in 2 months?

thanks for listening to me. :)
x
It wont be soup all the time. im going to mix it up obv.
i did say that i would also excercise :/

1-2 pounds a week is a reasonable target, and you wont be killing yourself at the same time. So in two months you can lose about 8-16 pounds, and since there’s 14 pounds in a stone you should be able to do it.

Try to calculate how many calories you are currently taking, and see how that compares to the 1300 you’ve quoted. If you want to lose 1 pound a week you need to have 500 less calories a day
